What are Jobs?
Jobs are a feature of the game for players to specialize in some skills. They have favoured skills that can go higher than normal skills (What are favoured skills?).
Some may even have some powerful and exclusive skills (Boston Skills).
Do not confuse roles with jobs. You may do piracy in many different jobs, including trader jobs (Not recommended).
- You may change back to any job you had at any Guild Master (of that job type - Adv, Bat or Tra). Changing to a previous job will be more expensive without the job card.
- Example: Guerilla without a card is 50 million ducats but with the card it is 2.5 million ducats.
- Each job has a unique set of Favoured skills, and may include an Expert skill.
- You need the a job card to unlock new jobs. You get these cards by doing the job's quest.
- Beginner job cards can potentially unlock lots of jobs but only one at a time.
- Most job quests have prerequisites of skill ranks, fame, or both.
- The type of job you have will double the amount of experience and fame you receive of that type. For example: Being in a trade type job will double all trade experience and trade fame you receive while being in that job.
How to choose a Job?
Each character (toon) can only have a limited number of skills at a time, and each job has a limited number of favoured skills it can have. So it is usually a good idea to plan ahead which job/skills you will want to have for each of your characters.
Note: You can create an alt to experience a different job without having to change your job too often.
The job you want is the one that will enhance your play style. Think of what you do in the game, do you trade a lot? Which kind of trade goods do you trade? If you trade a lot of spices, then having a job that has spice trading as favoured is really useful.
Most people will choose a job by its skill set. But you can also look at the level requirements for each job. Some jobs are so high level you will likely want to postpone it for later.
Tip for beginners
If you are just starting out it is a good idea to get all the beginner jobs and keep switching between them as needed:
Adventurer: Adventurer guild's plight
Trader: The Merchant Guild's predicament
Maritime: Intercept the privateer fleet
FAQ: Switching between the skills and jobs
Next I'll list all jobs by type (Adventure, trading and battle).
- You can quickly figure out if you can use the letter to get the job card or if you will need to do the quest.
- Each job page also provides the complete step by step quest guide.
